Q. Why can I buy a higher Egyptian cotton thread count at a fraction of
the cost from other online retail stores?
A. Egyptian cotton is the most expensive cotton in the world. It is
impossible for a set of authentic Egyptian cotton product to be sold at a price
lower than $100 unless it is either fake or inferior Egyptian cotton used.
Unfortunately, there are quite a few sellers selling this type of product. We
strongly suggest customers to purchase from reputable companies who supply proof
of authenticity and quality.
Q. What is thread count?
A. Thread count refers to the number of threads per 10cm of cloth. Generally, the higher the thread count or density of the fabric, the
finer and softer the cloth with most people finding their sheets improve with
age and repeated washes which ultimately makes the sheets softer and smoother. Threadcounts are often inflated when produced cheaply and using inferior Egyptian cotton. If this is the case, your linen will degenerate with use and pilling will occur.
Buying quality linen in the long run is an investment as you won’t need to
replace them as often as an inferior product.
Q. Why is Egyptian cotton considered more luxurious?
A. Just as the finest Champagne is only found in France, the same can be said
about cotton from Egypt. Cotton grown in Egypt grows stronger than in any other
country in the world as it grows in a longer fibre and can therefore be spun
into a finer thread. Compare this with the short, frayed, inferior cotton, which
is produced in other manufacturing facilities in other parts of the world, and
you’ll never go back to scratchy, pilling sheets again.
Q. Where are your sheets manufactured?
A. The Sheets we stock are manufactured in Egypt using Egyptian cotton. They have a seal
of authenticity from the Egyptian Government for your peace of mind.
Q. Does your linen contain any chemicals or nasties, which I’ve heard
about in the media?
A. All of our bedlinen has Oeko-Tex standard
100 certification for bleaching and dyeing.
Q. What is percale?
A. Percale refers to a closely woven plain-weave fabric usually of cotton.
Q. Will my sheets pill?
A. Sheets can pill due to rough feet being the most common cause. Others
being the friction of the body, night wear or other bedding continually being
rubbed in the same location. However, high thread count, quality sheeting very
rarely pills.
Q. Why is pure cotton better to sleep under than poly-cotton or satin
sheeting?
A. During the night our bodies give off moisture whether we are hot or cold.
Synthetics trap this moisture and we end up feeling sticky. Natural fibres such
as cotton ‘wicks’ the moisture through the linen as it can breathe, allowing you
to sleep without moisture build-up.
Q. What is sateen?
A. A sateen weave is usually in cotton or a cotton blend. It is called a
weft-faced weave, which creates the smooth, shiny surface on the ‘right’ side of
the fabric.
Q. Will your sheets fit my bed?
A. Our bed linen is made to standard international sizes. We do however offer
a ‘Super’ size for Queen and King sheets where the wall (ie. depth) of your
mattress needs to be deeper.
Q. How do I care for my Egyptian cotton products?
A. Egyptian cotton is surprisingly easy to care for and you’ll be happy to
see how your sheets actually become softer and more luxurious over time. All you
need to do is wash your sheets by themselves in cold water. Do not use bleach as
this can damage the sheets – use only a mild detergent. Hang to dry or tumble
dry on low heat so the sheets do not get to burning point. If you’re looking for
a ‘tailored’ look, you need only iron on low heat the pillowcases and top edge
of the sheet if it is going to be displayed.
